What We Offer You

  • Most of our help is providing transport to and from health-related appointments – be it to the GP, a local Hospital, Dentist, Optician, Podiatrist or Physiotherapist. In addition to our local hospitals, we do extend our services to include visits to St George’s in Tooting, St Peter’s in Chertsey and Royal Marsden in Sutton to name but a few.
  • In the majority of cases we will stay in the waiting room (where permitted) whilst you are being seen and then take you safely home. However, should your appointment be long we may need to send a different volunteer to collect you.
  • We are also happy to take you to visit your spouse or partner in a local nursing home. Subject to a volunteer being available, we are able to do this once a week.
  • There are standard charges for our services to cover the cost of journeys undertaken by our volunteers. You will also be responsible for any parking charges. A list of all journey costs will be included in the Client Pack supplied at the time of registration.
  • Most importantly, all of our volunteers will wear visible photographic ID and have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate which is checked annually.
  • There is a one-off registration fee of £10.

Shopping: We can also help with shopping on a temporary basis (for example after an operation).

Can we help you?

  • Ashtead Good Neighbours caters for adults living in Ashtead who would like our assistance on a temporary or long-term basis.
  • Whilst we are able to provide our service for residents living in their own home or sheltered accommodation, unfortunately we cannot extend our offer to those living in a nursing or care home.
  • There will be an initial assessment carried out by one of our experienced assessors. This is to ensure that we can offer you the appropriate help and your requirements are fully addressed when you request a job.
  • You must be able to walk to, and get into, the volunteer’s car on your own, with only the aid of a stick, frame or friendly arm.
  • If you are approved, registration will then take place. At that time, the process of making a booking is fully explained, paperwork is provided and details of our dedicated booking telephone number is given, along with our hours of operation.
  • You will then pay the one-off registration fee of £10.
  • Once registered, you may be re-assessed if your circumstances change. This is to ensure that we are still able to meet your needs and maintain your safety.
